Frequently Asked Questions ?"},"content":{"rendered":"<hr \/>\n<ul>\n<li>Q: <strong>What type of tutoring services do you offer?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">A: I categorize my tutoring services into the following areas:<br \/>\n<strong style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\">1) &#8220;Back-on-Path&#8221; Tutoring:<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"> in this situation, the student is only struggling with a particular topic or two and would like to meet one-on-one for a few sessions to get back on track.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\n<strong>2) &#8220;Full-Scale&#8221; Tutoring:<\/strong> in this situation, the student has had a history of struggling in math and would like one-on-one tutoring throughout the school year to increase their successes in their math course.\u00a0<em id=\"__mceDel\"><em id=\"__mceDel\"><br \/>\n<\/em><\/em><strong>3) &#8220;Group&#8221; Tutoring:<\/strong> If the student is more comfortable working with me <em>and<\/em> a friend who is in their class (or has the same teacher), this is option to meet as a group. This is also a good way for parents to keep costs down.\u00a0<em id=\"__mceDel\" style=\"line-height: 1.714285714; font-size: 1rem;\"><em id=\"__mceDel\"><em id=\"__mceDel\"><em id=\"__mceDel\"><br \/>\n<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/em><strong>4) &#8220;Forward&#8221; Tutoring:<\/strong> In this situation a student works with me during the summer to prepare for the math course they will be taking in the upcoming year <em>(in my opinion, the most effective type of tutoring!<\/em>).<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Q: <strong>In what order are high school math courses taken in Loudoun County?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">A: <a href=\"https:\/\/loudounmathtutoring.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Math_Progression.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LCPS Math Progression Chart<\/a><\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Q: <strong>Which math courses have a Virginia Standard of Learning (SOL) test?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">A: SOL tests at the end of certain courses determine whether the student receives a &#8220;verified credit&#8221; (a certain number of which are required for graduation). The Mathematics courses which have an associated end-of-course SOL test are: Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II (or Algebra II\/Trigonometry).<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Q: <strong>What is the difference between a Standard Unit of Credit and a Verified Unit of Credit?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">A: A Standard Unit of Credit is earned by passing a course with a minimum of 140 clock hours of instruction. A Verified Unit of Credit is earned by passing a course and its related end-of-course Standards of Learning (SOL) test where an end-of-course test is required. Students may repeat end-of-course tests to earn the verified credits needed for graduation.<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Q: <strong>How many math courses do I need to graduate?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">A: Most students will earn either a Standard Diploma or an Advanced Studies Diploma. Please see your school Guidance Department or the <a title=\"LCPS Program of Studies\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lcps.org\/cms\/lib4\/VA01000195\/Centricity\/Domain\/1\/Program%20of%20Studies%20hs%202013%20English.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LCPS Program of Studies<\/a> for the number of Standard and Verified credits for each type of diploma. In general, for a <strong>Standard Diploma<\/strong>, a student needs 3 standard credits and 1 verified credit.
